Month #2 of my Beauteque Mask Maven subscription.  I love sheet masks and getting a variety pack delivered to my door once a month is rocking my world.  Beauteque is an American beauty shop specializing in Asian beauty and skincare products and they offer two monthly subs:  a BB Bag which includes 6-8 full-sized products in a cosmetics bag, and Mask Maven which is a variety pack of 9-11 masks.  While the BB Bag also sounds awesome, I know I'll get the most out of Mask Maven.  It costs $15 per month plus $6.95 shipping, in US funds, but you can get it for less if you purchase longer subscriptions.  I picked up a full year of this subscription when they were having a 30% off sale for a total of $264.06 Canadian, including shipping - that's about $22 Canadian per month.  If you would like to check out either of these subs, you can do that right here :)

As you can see above, this month's theme was "Beauty from Land and Sea" which encompasses. . . well, pretty much everything right? I don't really get the whole "theme" thing as I've yet to encounter a really clever theme or one which requires much curation.  I do love the masks though.  Here's the info sheet that comes with the masks, outlining what we received, what each mask is supposed to do for your skin, and how to use each mask.

As I did last month, I'll include the "value" of each mask from Beauteque (when available), without shipping or exchange.  Many can be purchased cheaper elsewhere though so this is really just a ballpark of value.

Baviphat Juicy Masks in "Strawberry" and "Green Tea" (approx. $3.30 value each - link is to a 10-pack on amazon.ca)

I had a Baviphat Urban Dollkiss mask last month in my Mask Maven and quite liked that one.  These ones are pretty standard in my opinion.  They have a decent amount of essence, the fit is nice enough and they smell lovely (at least the Green Tea one did - I haven't tried the Strawberry one yet).  I don't know how much the Green Tea mask firmed my skin or increased elasticity though.  We'll see if the Strawberry one deep-cleans and oil controls as promised.  Pleasant to use but I would not likely repurchase - especially at that price.

Scinic My Juicy Bottle Mask in "Firming" ($1.99 value)

Last month, we also had a Scinic My Juicy Bottle Mask although that one was Aqua and a bit of a moisture bomb.  I did like that one quite a bit but haven't gotten to this one yet as I haven't felt my skin needed firming recently.

Hanaka Masks in "Camellia and Hyaluronic Acid" and "Marine Mud & Seaweed" ($1.90 each - link is to the first)

I have never tried a Hanaka mask before so was interested to try these out - especially the Marine Mud and Seaweed version as it promised to hydrate and "polish skin to a glowing finish".  I did like that one quite a bit as it left my skin soft and glowing as promised.  The mask itself was (surprise!) black and quite thick so I liked it but it always cracks my husband up when I wear a black sheet mask.  I haven't tried the Camellia (for soothing) and Hyaluronic Acid (for moisture) mask yet.

Freeset Donkey Milk Skin Gel Mask Pack "Aqua" (approx. $3.60 value - link is to a 10-pack at Amazon.ca)

This mask is a combination sheet mask-gel mask and comes with a pearl paper backing to help you position it without ripping the mask (it's a little delicate).  I loved the feel of this mask and the fit was excellent for my face.  I found it very moisturizing.  It is made with donkey milk and contains vitamins A, B, D, C, and E, which promise to slow down the aging process.  It didn't smell milky to me though - maybe a little sweet? And fresh? I would consider purchasing this one.

Tony Moly Pureness 100 Hyaluronic Acid Mask Sheet ($1.99 value - link to different variety of same mask)

Last month, we received two masks from Tony Moly's "I'm Real" line and this month, we get to try one from their "Pureness 100" line.  This is another hyaluronic acid mask so it will be very moisturizing when I use it, hopefully.  To be honest, I don't love the Tony Moly masks I have tried so we'll see about this one.  Also, this the second HA mask in this package in addition to two masks which promise extreme hydration without that ingredient.  If I had really dry skin, I might love that. . . as is, I'd like to see a little more variety.

SNP Animal Otter Aqua Mask Sheet ($3.25 value)

I feel like a broken record. . . we also received an SNP animal mask last month (the anti-wrinkle Tiger).  This month, it's the Otter Aqua mask for, you guessed it, moisture! I do like these masks for a fun wearing experience although I don't notice them having any better performance than some (much) cheaper masks, to be honest.  This one had a weird fit - the eyes were too small and close together for my face so I actually had to tear the eye holes since they were covering my field of vision! That was not so fun. Meh.

Mediheal Mogongtox Soda Bubble Sheet ($1.22 value - at Korea Depart)

Here's the winner of the bag this month! I would never have purchased this in a million years.  As you can see in the picture above, it doesn't cover your entire face which is a good thing because this thing foams and bubbles like crazy! When you put the mask on your face, it claims to "massage skin to renewed vitality and remove impurities from pores". . . which means it bubbles and foams.  When it's done bubbling, remove mask, massage skin and rinse off.  This was sooo much fun! I was concerned it might be overly drying but it left my skin soft and clean-feeling without feeling stripped.  I would pick one of these up again :)

Overall Verdict:

The value is similar to last month's - about $22-23 depending without shipping or exchange - which I am happy with.  As I stated last month, signing up for a full year at a time when there was a discount offered made this sub cost about $22/month in Canadian funds for me.  As long as the value is about what I am paying, I am cool with that.  It would potentially cost more to have some of these masks shipped to me and some I would never have considered ordering for myself without trying them out first.  I do wish there was a little more variety in terms of type of mask (lots of moisturizing masks this month!) and brand (two Baviphat and two Hanaka masks each this month, plus lots of repeats from last month).  But I do appreciate getting to try different masks from the same line.  Maybe they could just be spaced out a little more?  Regardless, all sheet masks will get used eventually in my house and I am always happy to see this package in my mailbox.

Interested in checking out Mask Maven, the BB Bag or Beauteque's online shop (where you can purchase many of these masks unless otherwise indicated)? Here's the link.  Enjoy!
